Greater Manchester VCFSE Leadership Group e-bulletin April 2025

We’re a Leadership Group dedicated to promoting the role and involvement of the Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector in Greater Manchester.

We are are a partner in the VCFSE Accord which is a three-way agreement between us, the GMCA and the GM NHS Integrated Care System, based in a relationship of mutual trust, working together, and sharing responsibility. 

Accord Updates
Plan for the final year of delivery of the VCFSE Accord confirmed

The final year of the Accord will balance delivery, reflection, and preparation for the VCFSE sector’s future positioning within Greater Manchester’s evolving strategic framework. Work under the Accord includes:

  • Continued strategic positioning of the VCFSE Sector
  • Supporting VCFSE roles that contribute to GM system programme design 
  • Supporting key groups in influencing spaces, such as GM Equality Alliance (GM=EqAl) and Alternative Provider Collaborative.  
  • Working to improving VCFSE Sector sustainability & commissioning
  • Growing the VCFSE Ecosystem by strengthen collaboration between Local Infrastructure organisations, identifying new collaborative opportunities and engaging the sector in planning the post-2026 Accord.
  • Embedding guidance around hearing the voice of lived experience in policy
  • Reviewing mission, governance and priorities of GM=EqAl to create a future plan, firming up the strength of the network
  • Growing sector data & intelligence

New Guidance for policy makers on including the voice of lived experience in policy making

Produced as part of the A­ccord by the Greater Manchester Equality Alliance (GM=EqAl), this guidance for policy makers brings together key principles for including the voice of lived experience in policy making with practical guidance around remuneration and examples of this in practice.

Join our online session

Tuesday 10th June, 12pm - 1pm

We are excited to invite you to hear more about including the voice of lived experience in policy making – why it’s important and hear about how you can adopt the practice.

This is a 30-minute workshop for policy makers in Greater Manchester offering a mix of interactive discussions, individual reflection and group exercises, followed by 30-minutes to share and feedback.

VCFSE Representation Updates
Shaping Co-production Together: Reflections from a Greater Manchester Workshop

On 10th April, we attended the “Shaping Co-production Together” workshop, hosted by NHS Greater Manchester and the Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership.

This workshops was an invitation to everyone involved in engagement and co-production to bring their lived and learned experiences into the room. The goal was to move beyond abstract definitions of co-production and instead forge a practical, value-driven approach that works across our system.

The government has launched a consultation on their ‘Pathways to Work’ Green Paper which outlines plans to reform health and disability benefits system and employment support.

GMCA are encouraging GM organisations to submit a responses to the consultation, or to contribute to GMCAs.

Supporting Sandwich Carers in Greater Manchester: Research Findings & Policy Workshop

1st May (2pm-4pm), Manchester

This event is for representatives from voluntary and community organisations, policymakers, and professionals with experience in practice and/or planning in health and social care.

Join researchers from a team led by Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Greenwich, and 10GM to discuss the findings from their research on sandwich carers and help develop recommendations.

Sandwich carers are unwaged family carers with caring responsibilities across different generations, for instance, younger and older family members.

Answer Cancer

Would you like to help Answer Cancer grow communities’ knowledge of cancer and increase the uptake of cancer screening across Greater Manchester? 

The Answer Cancer fund is offering grants of up to £4,000 to GM based voluntary, community, faith & social enterprise organisations to deliver projects.

Foundational Economy Fund

This GMCA fund is providing grants for businesses and organisations working in Greater Manchester’s foundational economy - including the health and social care, early education and childcare, and the local high street (retail, hospitality, culture, leisure and tourism) sectors - to trial new ideas and become more resilient.

Initial grants of up to £11,000 are available.
